And I will let wonders be seen in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and pillars of smoke. The sun will be made dark and the moon turned to blood, before the great day of the Lord comes, a day to be feared.
(Joel 2:30-31 BBE)
The November moon over Western NY in 1999 matched the crayon in our box set labeled blood red perfectly. Blood red is really a valid shade of red. We were struck that the moon stayed blood red for such a long period of time, since it is rare for atmospheric conditions to be stable, especially in Western NY. The joke is, "If you don't like the weather, wait a minute."
I have put watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they will not keep quiet day or night: you who are the Lord's recorders, take no rest, And give him no rest, till he puts Jerusalem in her place to be praised in the earth.
(Isaiah 62:6-7 BBE)
The moon was reported to have been blood red over Jerusalem on September 26, 1996 during "Sukkot", the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles, and 3 other sightings on significant Jewish festival dates the same year.
Moon Glows Red This is an article by BBC News Sci/Tech report on the lunar eclipse January 21, 2000 on another day when the moon turned a deep shade of red viewed most places globally. However, it was another cloudy day in Western NY.
